Randle El surprised by release

Is it just me or does Antwaan Randle El's reaction to being released by the Redskins seem a bit naive? He lost his starting job before the '09 season began and then he turned in a blooper-reel performance as a punt returner. Randle El's on the wrong side of 30 and he's no longer a consistent threat as a wide receiver.

"I am a bit shocked," Randle El told the Washington Post. "I thought that with a new GM and a new coach, I thought you'd be given a shot to show them what you can do. And I figured that with some of the younger guys who still haven't proven themselves, they would want to keep the veterans around.

"To be honest, I figured they would want to renegotiate and go from there. But at the same time, I had a high [salary] for next season, so this is what they decided to do. But I know I can still play. I just have to find a team that looks at me as an asset and wants me. That's the next step."

If you're wondering where Randle El might land, just think about teams that are desperate for help at wide receiver. The Ravens, Dolphins and Jets come to mind. I don't think there's a place for Randle El with the Eagles, Giants or the Cowboys. Randle El could also be a Wildcat option for another team.
