Giants hire LBs coach

The New York Giants announced Thursday that Jim Herrmann will replace Bill Sheridan as the team's linebackers coach. Sheridan, who was recently promoted to defensive coordinator for the Giants, used to work with Herrmann at Michigan.

"I've always been very much aware of Jim Herrmann and the job that he has done," Coughlin said. "He was the defensive coordinator at the University of Michigan for a lot of years and did an outstanding job. I was very impressed by not only the type of defense that they played but the aggressive style that they played. And he is a part of the Bo Schembechler tree. I have always been a great admirer of Bo Schembechler."

Herrmann has coached the Jets' linebackers for the past three seasons. Before that, he was the defensive coordinator at Michigan for nine years. Coughlin and his mentor, Bill Parcells, have always kept their ears to the ground when it comes to talented college coaches. This was a recommendation from Sheridan that Coughlin obviously signed off on.
