For whatever reason, folks seem convinced the Eagles will select a running back in the first round. It's certainly an area of need, but I don't necessarily think you have to commit one of those first-rounders to the position.
The Eagles, Giants and Cowboys have all prospered from taking running backs later in the draft. The Cowboys' featured back, Marion Barber, was a fourth-round pick and the Giants' backup, Ahmad Bradshaw, was selected in the seventh.
The Eagles appear to have some interest in Liberty running back Rashad Jennings, who had a breakout performance during the Senior Bowl. Jennings had a promising freshman season at Pittsburgh before transferring to Liberty to be close to his ailing father. He had an outstanding college career at Liberty and some people think he might come off the board earlier than anticipated.
I holed up inside the Beast film room this morning (YouTube) and watched some of Jennings' senior season. Loved what I saw, but the level of competition would concern me. No knock against Elon or anything, but we'd have a much better read on Jennings had he stayed at Pitt. That said, another guy who transferred out of Pitt (Joe Flacco) hasn't let it slow him down.
