Former Texas Tech star McBath to visit Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys will host former Texas Tech safety Darcel McBath (6-0, 198) for a personal workout today at Valley Ranch. ESPN.com has McBath ranked as the sixth-best safety in the draft.

I watched McBath in person three or four times and another eight games or so on TV. He has remarkable closing speed and excellent ball skills, which helped him have eight interceptions in '08. At the combine, he ran a 4.58 40-yard dash and had a staggering 38-inch vertical.

McBath's from Gainesville, Texas, and the Cowboys love taking homegrown kids in the later rounds (see Patrick Crayton and Jacques Reeves). But with McBath rising up the draft board, I'm not sure he'll be there in the later rounds.

I'm planning to visit with him via phone later this afternoon to see how his visit to the Ranch went.

Update: I talked to McBath a few minutes ago. He's actually visiting with the Cowboys this evening and then working out Friday.
