The New York Giants apparently took a phone call from the Cardinals regarding a Matt Leinart trade, but the Daily News reports that it didn't go much further than that. Leinart's still owed $10 million over the next two years and that's not something general manager Jerry Reese is interested in paying.
Rhett Bomar will receive one more opportunity to try to claim the backup job Thursday evening. If he performs poorly, look for the Giants to be in the market for another veteran backup. And as Ralph Vacchiano of the Daily News points out, Jeff Garcia's already obligated to play in the UFL and might have a difficult time getting out of his contract. It looks like the Redskins will release a talented young quarterback named Richard Bartel, but he doesn't fit the profile of what the Giants are looking for.
