The Washington Redskins are once again talking to the Tennessee Titans about an Albert Haynesworth trade, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. The only apparent snag is that Washington wants two draft picks for the Pro Bowl defensive tackle and the Titans are reluctant to make that offer.
But this isn't a time for Mike Shanahan to be greedy. Whether he admits it or not, the Haynesworth standoff has been a massive distraction for a team that's trying to change its culture. It's time for the Skins to cut their losses ($32 million guaranteed) and move on without the disgruntled player. Maybe folks will say that Haynesworth outdueled Shanahan in the end, but who really cares at this point?
If Haynesworth is traded soon, maybe the Redskins can simply focus on the Cowboys instead of leaking information to a local newspaper. Shanahan doesn't have much leverage in a trade with the Titans. In fact, he should be thrilled that any team would be willing to welcome Haynesworth into its locker room.
If you can get a second- or third-round pick, do the deal immediately. In fact, I'd even do it for a fourth-round pick at this point.
