Thomas off to a fast start, according to Zorn

Many of you have asked about what sort of progress second-year wide receivers Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly are making for the Redskins. Judging by Jim Zorn's news conference Friday, it looks like Thomas has made up a lot of ground and may be poised to make a major impact this season.

"We have a lot of confidence in where he's headed," Zorn said of Thomas. "I think Malcolm Kelly is coming on, Devin is showing that he is a little more seasoned than Malcolm right now but they're both going to be competing and Antwaan [Randle El] is not going to give it up, so we're having great competition at that flanker position -- especially with those two guys."

Those have to be soothing words for Redskins fans. I think the biggest key will be preventing those guys from getting injured. They didn't know how to approach NFL practices last season, and that's what led to some of the injury issues. Here's what else Zorn had to say about Thomas' progress.

"Just his confidence in the offense and being able to run routes without having to think, 'what do I do on this play?,' so he just keeps himself in line," Zorn said of Thomas. "He's able to concentrate more on coverage and beating the defender than trying to remember what his route is."
