Stunning move by the Eagles

I've read the Philadelphia Eagles' press release six times to make sure it wasn't a misprint. They have named longtime offensive line coach Juan Castillo defensive coordinator, thus ending one of the strangest coaching searches in recent memory.

Colts senior offensive line coach Howard Mudd will replace Castillo. Mudd and new defensive line coach Jim Washburn are close friends, so that may help explain the pairing. I know Peyton Manning has always sworn by Mudd.

But the Castillo move is the stunner. He's one of the most underrated assistants in the league, but he hasn't coached defense at any level since 1990. I'll be back with more thoughts on this situation in a bit.
