The decision by the federal judge not to lift the lockout and go back to business could have enormous implications for the Philadelphia Eagles.
If free agency and trades can happen in the next two to four weeks, then the Eagles will figure prominently in both. That will affect what happens in the next two days of the draft.
Let's say the Eagles can't trade out of the No. 23 pick in the first round and troubled cornerback Jimmy Smith of Colorado is sitting there. Do the Eagles take Smith or do they hope they can sign shutdown corner Nnamdi Asomugha of Oakland, who is a free agent?
Now, what about trading Kevin Kolb? If the Cardinals, Seahawks, Vikings, 49ers or Dolphins know they can get Kolb in the next month, would they draft a quarterback today or tomorrow in the first or second round?
These are complex scenarios. Andy Reid and Howie Roseman are really going to earn their money today.
