McNabb, Westbrook will not practice today

Is Michael Vick Ready To Play? (1:29)

No big surprise here, but Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb and running back Brian Westbrook will both sit out practice Wednesday afternoon. And it sounds like coach Andy Reid is much more optimistic about Westbrook's chances of playing Sunday than McNabb's. Here's what Reid said about Westbrook's ankle sprain: McNabb

"There’s very little swelling,” Reid said. "We feel pretty good about that today."

Reid referred to Westbrook's injury as a "slightly sprained ankle" and he seems hopeful that the running back will be ready for Sunday's game against the Chiefs. Regarding McNabb, Reid said he's still not at the point where he can throw passes with the necessary velocity or distance.

"If he can function and keep himself out of danger, then he can play," Reid said of McNabb. "If not, then he can’t."

At this point, I'd be really surprised if McNabb plays. It looks like Kevin Kolb will get the start and Michael Vick will be his backup. Reid didn't commit himself to that Wednesday, but it just seems like the most likely scenario. In other news, Vick said that "Superman" could be returning at some point in the future.

"I'm still going to be aggressive," Vick told reporters in Philly on Wednesday. "Nothing is going to change about me on the field. I'm still going to be that same player -- dynamic in whatever way I can. Not doing too much. Superman may not be ready to return as of right now, but he will in the future."

Isn't it strange to have a scenario where Vick is backing up Kolb? Just doesn't seems possible, but that's where this thing is headed right now. It will be interesting to see how the fans react if Kolb has some trouble in the first half. I'm sure they'll be extremely patient -- until at least the second series.

OK, I have a report from Valley Ranch if anyone's interested. Back in a moment.
