Cowboys starting running back Marion Barber will practice this afternoon (2:30 p.m. ET) but only take limited reps, according to a league source. The source informed me that Barber has shown "slight" improvement with his quadriceps injury since doing some light work in practice Wednesday.
Barber, who rarely speaks to reporters, has been predictably tight-lipped in addressing the injury but I'm told he is determined to put himself in position to play against the Panthers on Monday. I still think the Cowboys would be wise to keep him out and take advantage of their depth at the position with second-year backs Felix Jones and Tashard Choice.
Owner Jerry Jones questioned Barber's toughness last December when he didn't play against the Steelers because of a toe injury. Choice filled in for Barber against the Steelers and had 88 yards rushing and 78 yards receiving. In some ways, Choice is a more complete back than Jones at this stage of their careers. Jones is obviously more of a home-run threat.
