Roy Helu was back on the practice field Thursday, looking and feeling healthy and hoping to carve out some sort of role in the Redskins' running game this year even though Alfred Morris asserted himself as the unquestioned starter in 2012.
Tom Coughlin thinks it's pretty optimistic to think Jason Pierre-Paul, who had back surgery this week, would be ready in time for Week 1. It's certainly possible, but I sense this is one of those situations in which the priority will be making sure Pierre-Paul is free from risk of re-injury before he's cleared, and if that means he misses a game or two, the Giants will make that sacrifice.
Eli Manning misses his top two wide receivers. Hakeem Nicks should be there next week for mandatory minicamp, but I wouldn't expect Victor Cruz unless he has his contract situation worked out by then. And I don't expect that he will.
Michael Vick wants Chip Kelly to name a starting quarterback before training camp starts, or else he says he's not answering any more questions about the starting quarterback competition. I don't think Mike's going to get his wish. I do think he's going to end up being the starting quarterback Week 1.
One of the noteworthy plays I saw at Eagles practice Thursday was a pass breakup by Brandon Boykin. Jeff McLane has more on the second-year cornerback whose spot is as likely as sure a thing as anyone's in the secondary.
