Hakeem Nicks attends Giants minicamp

After missing voluntary offseason workouts the past few weeks, not calling to explain why and frustrating his coach and quarterback in the process, wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is apparently in the building today in East Rutherford as the New York Giants begin a three-day mandatory minicamp.

This is no big surprise, since the words "mandatory" and "voluntary" mean opposite things and Nicks could have incurred significant fines by missing practices this week. Nicks has never been a troublemaker, and he or someone close to him shot down a report a few weeks ago that his OTA absences were contract-related (he has one year left on his deal), so there was no reason to worry about him missing this week. I guess people will ask why he wasn't around the past couple of weeks, but as we've discussed here at length, he doesn't have to tell anyone if he doesn't want to.

Of greater interest to me is how much practice work Nicks actually does. He's coming off a season in which he was limited by a number of leg injuries, and he broke his foot in minicamp last year, so it would be little surprise if he or the team decided to take things slowly this time of year.
