A look at the Cowboys' week ahead

IRVING, Texas – It’s finally a regular-season week, with the New York Giants coming to AT&T Stadium on Sunday, so let’s take a look at the week ahead for the Dallas Cowboys:

The Cowboys practice at 8:35 a.m. CT on Monday, followed by an off day Tuesday and a normal practice week Wednesday-Friday.

What to watch for Monday:

Who practices? Anthony Spencer and Ronald Leary are coming off knee surgeries and said they will play against the Giants. In order to play, they must practice. Will Mackenzy Bernadeau, who did not practice last week because of an ankle injury, be on the field? How about Lance Dunbar? The running back was still in a protective boot after the Houston preseason game last Thursday.

Tempo, tempo, tempo: The coaches and the veterans know what is about to hit them on Sunday; the rookies do not. The Cowboys are counting on Travis Frederick, Terrance Williams, J.J. Wilcox and DeVonte Holloman to play big roles on offense and special teams. Will they be ready?

The roster: Is it set? They look thin on both lines and did not make any moves to pick up players off waivers. Can they really carry five tight ends and only four cornerbacks on their active roster? They do have corner Micah Pellerin on the practice squad, so he could be an option later in the week possibly. New pickups Edgar Jones and Kyle Bosworth will have to be quick learners.
