Jerry's not discussing Phillips' contract

I love the knee-jerk nature of the NFL. About a month ago, we wondered whether Cowboys coach Wade Phillips would keep his job until the end of the season. Now, owner Jerry Jones is being asked whether he plans to give Phillips an extension. The Cowboys have a team option on Phillips for 2010, but Jones isn't tipping his hand on his intentions. And the way this team has played in December the past couple seasons, who can blame him.

"Since there's been absolutely nothing in my mind but the fact that I have an option for him next year, that's as far as we need to go," Jones said on his weekly radio show Tuesday. "And I'm proud that today, that we've had some success and that the things that Wade can bring to the table are showing.

"So I'm proud of that, and this does nothing but benefit every fan we've got. It wouldn't benefit our fans at all for me to discuss Wade Phillips' status for next year."

I love it. Jones is not discussing Phillips because it would be a disservice to the fans. What a humanitarian this guy is.
