PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Eagles signed wide receiver Deon Long on Friday, bringing their roster up to 90 players.
Long, 25, is 6-foot, 192 pounds. He spent time with the Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins and the now-Los Angeles Rams.
The Rams released Long earlier this summer.
Long played for four different college programs, finishing up with two years at Maryland. He was undrafted last year.
Long takes the roster spot created when the Eagles released defensive tackle Connor Wujciak on Thursday. Wujciak was waived/injured because of a shoulder injury.
Long joins a crowded group of young wide receivers who are vying for a roster spot. The Eagles are looking for depth beyond Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, Chris Givens and Rueben Randle.
A couple of the young receivers have shown signs during this training camp.
Paul Turner, who played at Louisiana Tech, has had a strong camp. So has Arizona product Cayleb Jones, who made acrobatic touchdown catches each of the last two days.
“I think Paul Turner has been a kid that has showed up a little bit on offense,” Eagles coach Doug Pederson said.
