Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger had a story Saturday about Amani Toomer's contract negotiations -- or lack thereof. For the first time in his 13-year career with the Giants, Toomer's in a contract year. He's not the type of player to call out management, but he does allude to the fact that new GM Jerry Reese does things a little differently than his predecessor, Ernie Accorsi.
"If I play pretty well, I feel comfortable," said Toomer. "But if I have a slow week like last week, it's like, 'Oh man, what's going on?' That's all part of the game. If people tell you they're not worried about stuff like that, they're lying."
It's hard to imagine Toomer finishing his career in a different uniform, but it could certainly happen. Someone would love to his veteran leadership in the locker room. To his credit, Toomer has continued to tutor the young receivers (Domenik Hixon, Steve Smith) that will eventually force him out the door.
