On Tuesday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell ruled out the possibility of the NFC and AFC title games being played on the same day at Giants Stadium. Speaking to WFAN Sports Radio in New York, Goodell said that one game would be played on Sunday, Jan. 18 and the other would be played Monday night, Jan. 19 if the Giants and Jets ended up hosting their respective conference championship games.
Talk of a possible Subway Super Bowl has heated up with both teams surging in the second half of the season. The Jets' dominating win over the Titans on Sunday fueled the talk. So why wouldn't the games be played on Saturday and Sunday?
Well, Goodell doesn't want two of the teams to have only six days to prepare. I'm sure the fact that Monday's a much better night for TV ratings never occurred to anyone.
I heard some of my friends in the New York media mentioning the thought of a Jets-Giants Super Bowl a few weeks ago. But they were joking at the time. Now, it's starting to look like a real possibility.
