ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Beast is currently blogging two blocks away from the brand new Cowboys Stadium, which will officially open for business Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. local time. That's when the George Strait concert will begin. I'm pretty sure I just saw Reba McEntire's tour bus drive past the restaurant I'm sitting in (Olenjacks's). She'll be one of the opening acts for a concert that is expected to draw at least 60,000.
Country music "star" Blake Shelton and the incomparable Julianne Hough will be on the undercard. And if you're currently living in North Texas and have tickets to the concert, let me suggest starting your trip right now. I had a chance to visit with the public information officer for the Arlington police department earlier today and she walked me through the alleged 17 or so routes into the new stadium. With no traffic, my house is about 30 minutes from the stadium. With the traffic expected for Saturday's concert, my house is located approximately seven hours from the facility.
Here's a video of some of the final preparations that my former employer put together. When I drove past the worksite an hour ago, hundreds of men were scrambling to put the finishing touches on the stadium. If you haven't seen it yet, it's pretty awe-inspiring. And it's SO Jerry. The coolest touch is the etched glass that surrounds most of the structure. At least I think it's called etched glass.
Here's the tour that Jones took me on back in September. I'm the guy in the hard hat, safety goggles and orange vest. Please try to have an unproductive weekend. My mailbag will appear at some point tomorrow afternoon.
