Oxnard bound

While I'm waiting for my flight to Cowboys training camp to board, I thought I might pass along some "breaking news" from Redskins Park. Washinton has signed defensive tackle Zarnell Fitch and guard Fred Matua and waived guard Kerry Brown and defensive end J.T. Mapu, who was signed after the Redskins lost two defensive ends to injury.

You're going to see even more roster churning than usual early in camp because of the 80-man rosters. In the past, teams could use several NFL Europe exemptions to bring in more bodies. Coaches don't like the roster limits, but I don't see it changing.

I watched Fitch play a couple of times at TCU and he's a high-motor guy who won't blow anyone away. Obviously something's wrong, though, if the No. 79 guy on the roster has a "wow" factor in camp.

Matua had an excellent career at USC from 2002-05, but he's just managed to hang around in the pros.

I'll attend the Cowboys' only practice today at 5:30 ET and then head coach Wade Phillips will address the NFC blog at 8. If you have any questions about the Cowboys -- or any other team in the division -- try out our revolutionary mailbag section. Flight attendant's giving me the evil eye, so I have to stop for now.

See you in Oxnard.
