In the interest of remaining employed, I normally don't promote TV shows on other networks. But I'll make an exception for tonight's "The Catch" game at 8 p.m. ET on the NFL Network. Those two words -- The Catch -- still make most Cowboys fans and players cringe.
For the first time that I'm aware of, the 1981 NFC Championship Game between the Cowboys and 49ers will be replayed. Vin Scully and Hank Stram have the call, which is more than enough reason to set your TiVos. And if your doing some last-minute Christmas shopping, my pal Gary Myers from the New York Daily News has written an excellent book based on the famous play, "The Catch."
Myers was with the Dallas Morning News at the time, and he's gone back and talked to many of the players who were on the field that day. The stuff on Pro Bowl safety Charlie Waters is amazing and you'll find anecdotes that had never been revealed. We had Myers in studio on 103.3 ESPN recently. Here's an excerpt that ran in the Daily News.
I was 8 years old in 1981 and I still haven't quite recovered from that play. To remain in the Christmas spirit, I'm planning to TiVo "The Catch" and watch a live showing of "It's A Wonderful Life."
