My NFC South colleague Pat Yasinskas reports that Chicago's Lovie Smith was one of three head coaches in attendances Tuesday at South Florida's pro day. Smith doesn't make a ton of appearances at these events, so you have to figure there is someone specific he wanted to see.
My guess? Safety Nate Allen is projected as a second-round pick, and Scouts Inc. has him rated as the 47th-best player in the draft. The Bears don't have a pick in that round, but it's not out of the question that they could trade up -- or that Allen could fall to their current position in the third round (No. 75 overall). Allen did everything Tuesday except the 40-yard dash because of a slight hamstring pull.
