Catching up on the Lions' coaching search:

  • The name of Miami assistant head coach Todd Bowles has emerged as a candidate for interview, according to NFL.com. That brings the list of names connected to the job to at least six: Bowles, Minnesota defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Tennessee defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, Washington secondary coach Jerry Gray, Dallas offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

  • Several reports have suggested Tennessee offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger will also interview, but that has not been confirmed.

  • The Lions will have to interview Spagnuolo and Schwartz in their home cities by Saturday, according to NFL rules, Otherwise, the Lions likely will have to wait until after the respective teams end their playoff runs.

  • Bowles and Frazier will interview next week, even if their teams are still alive in the playoffs.

  • Gray, Garrett and McDaniels have no timing restrictions for interviews.

  • None of the six candidates have experience as a major-college or NFL head coach. Frazier was the first head coach at Trinity International (Ill.) University, where he served from 1988-96.
