Bears defense stiffens after Cutler fumble

DETROIT -- The Chicago Bears gave up 253 yards to the Detroit Lions here in the first half, but they chose a good point to tighten up early in the third quarter.

After recovering a Jay Cutler fumble at the 9-yard line, the Lions managed only 2 yards and settled for a 25-yard field goal from Dave Rayner, keeping this a one-score game. I wasn't a big fan of the Lions' play selection on the drive, but credit should go to defensive end Julius Peppers for running quarterback Drew Stanton out of bounds for a sack on second down.

Less than three minutes into the second half, the Lions are holding a 20-14 lead. But they missed a chance to really put the Bears on their heels.
