UPDATED: Spikes agreed to terms late Sunday night with the San Francisco 49ers.
We will soon find out the lengths to which the Detroit Lions will go to get free agent linebacker Takeo Spikes.
The Lions had Spikes in for a visit before training camp and coach Rod Marinelli has made little secret of his desire to bring in Spikes to play strong-side linebacker. But Spikes is also strongly considering the San Francisco 49ers, and Detroit president Matt Millen said the team has put its best offer on the table, according to Mlive.com's Tom Kowalski.
It says a lot when a coach is openly campaigning for a player to be signed. But Spikes is 31 and the Lions are smart to limit their financial offer.
