The first round of ESPN.com's bracket-style competition for the cover of "Madden NFL 12" is complete. As you know, it pitted divisional players against each other for the right to advance to Round 2.
The headline of the post spoils the news, but here are the details:
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers got 72 percent of the vote in his "matchup" with Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Rodgers, a No. 1 seed, will face St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford. Last week, Rodgers tweeted: "Hard to not want the cover of a game that I played as a kid. Wouldn't mind sharing it with @claymatthews52 and his hair..." Unfortunately, Packers linebacker Clay Matthews wasn't on the ballot.
Minnesota Vikings tailback Adrian Peterson won his bracket over Chicago Bears defensive end Julius Peppers with 57 percent of the vote. Peterson, a No. 9 seed, has a tough second-round matchup with San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers.
Second-round voting will continue through Sunday. We have three more rounds until a winner is determined late next month.
