Significant news coming out of Chicago: Tailback Kevin Jones will miss the season after tearing a ligament in his left ankle during Thursday night’s preseason finale against Cleveland. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Sun-Times broke the story.
The Bears re-signed Jones this winter in hopes he could relieve some of the heavy workload they placed on starter Matt Forte last season. Now, the Bears will have to determine whether to work backups Garrett Wolfe or Adrian Peterson into the rotation or simply ride Forte through another season.
It’s also possible they could scan the waiver wires this weekend for a fresh set of legs. Running back is one position where players can quickly adjust to a new scheme.
Jones missed the final three games of the 2007 season after tearing a knee ligament while playing in Detroit. His recovery from that injury limited him to 11 games last season for the Bears.
