TAMPA, Fla. -- Greetings from Raymond James Stadium, where as of 10:10 a.m. ET it was sunny and 85 degrees with 60 percent humidity, giving us a heat index of 89 degrees. The best way I can describe the conditions here is that it makes your hands feel like you just washed them, at least when you're an Upper Midwesterner who gets this a few times a year.
I've always thought that if I wanted to be a novelist, I would move to Florida, set up shop on a street corner (or alongside an interstate) and wait about three minutes for a story to present itself. Today's example: I passed a woman driving a truck hauling a trailer with this lettering on the side: State Alligator Control. There was a foil covering over the trailer, and as I grabbed a peak at 80 -- I mean, 65 -- miles per hour, I saw something moving underneath there.
Anyway, I'm going to try another impromptu pregame chat in the comments section of this post, as we did Thursday night at Lambeau Field. We'll start right away and I'll let you know when I need to step away for official business. We can talk Detroit Lions, who obviously are set to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers here in a few hours, but I'll entertain any NFC North topics.
On your mark. Get set. Go.
