Key LB reserve among four Vikings cuts

The Minnesota Vikings' most notable roster move Monday was releasing veteran linebacker Derrick Pope. To this point, it had appeared Pope would be the top backup at all three linebacker positions.

Instead, Pope was among four players released today to get the Vikings to the 75-man roster limit, according to Mike Wobschall of Vikings.com.

The Vikings' starting linebacker situation is set with Ben Leber and Chad Greenway on the outside and E.J. Henderson in the middle. You figure they will keep five or six linebackers on their final roster, meaning they could cull two or three reserves from this list: Vinny Ciurciu, Rufus Alexander, David Herron, J Leman and Erin Henderson.

Ciurciu and Leman can play middle linebacker, while Alexander, Herron and Henderson primarily work on the outside. The Vikings also could find depth on the free agent market after the final round of cuts next weekend.
