Peas in a pod: Harvin, Forte and Matthews?

Here's a random but interesting multi-team tie-in to our discussion about receiver Percy Harvin's beef with the Minnesota Vikings. Out of the blue, Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews put out this tweet:

My first reaction was to wonder if Matthews was subtly lumping himself into a group of two other NFC North players who appear dissatisfied with their contracts. Harvin is entering the third year of his five-year rookie contract and will make $915,000 in 2012. Matt Forte is unhappy with being the Chicago Bears' franchise player at the moment.

There have been no indications that Matthews is pushing for a new deal, but it's worth noting he is due to make $800,000 in the third year of his rookie contract after compiling 29.5 sacks over that period.

Via Twitter, some of you are suggesting Matthews was just playfully trying to recruit two opponents if they don't want to play for their respective NFC North teams. On second reading, I suppose that's possible.

So we won't draw any conclusions, and will just leave it as Matthews did: Hovering in cyberspace for everyone to decide for themselves.
