That gnawing feeling you're experiencing here in the first week of July? I'm guessing it's the unconscious realization that the 2012 ESPYS are right around the corner. They'll air July 11 at 9 p.m. ET, in fact, and a number of NFC North players have been nominated.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is among four candidates for Best Male Athlete, along with Novak Djokovic (tennis), LeBron James (NBA) and Justin Verlander (baseball). Rodgers has a real shot at this award, I would think, because he'll get all the pro-Rodgers votes along with many of the anti-LeBron ones.
Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is a candidate for Best Comeback Athlete. So are Sidney Crosby (NHL), Johan Santana (baseball) and Maria Sharapova.
You can view all the nominations, and take part in the voting, through this handy portal. Lemme know how it goes.
