On what is traditionally the slowest sports day of the year, please indulge me for a post that has some NFC North relevance but is mostly a life lesson.
In a forgotten portion of his famous 1993 ESPYS speech, Jim Valvano told how he leaned on the writings of former Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi to guide him through his early days as a coach. Around the 4-minute mark of the video, Valvano told a hilarious story of how he tried to model his first pre-game talk after Lombardi's "Family, Religion and the Green Bay Packers" speech.
I hope you find the time today to watch the entire 11-minute speech. I never had before today. There are plenty of takeaways, but my favorite was Valvano's suggestion to do three things every day: laugh, think and be moved by your emotions.
