BBAO: Projecting Lions' Darius Slay

We're Black and Blue All Over:

Could cornerback Darius Slay have a bigger rookie impact for the Detroit Lions than defensive end Ziggy Ansah? That's the projection from NFL.com analyst Daniel Jeremiah, who thinks Slay will be a factor from the first day of training camp.

Jeremiah: "Slay is incredibly explosive (4.36-second time in the 40-yard dash) and has impressive ball skills, as evidenced by his five interceptions last fall. He should nail down a starting position during training camp, and I expect him to improve throughout his rookie season. I won't be surprised if Slay matches the five picks he recorded during his final college campaign."

Health is the key for Slay, who needed minor knee surgery after the draft but recovered in time to participate in mandatory minicamp. Were it not for his knee condition, he probably would have been a first-round pick himself. (Related: Projecting Ansah's possible sack totals.)
