ChatWrap: Figuring out Greg Jennings

I took the rare step Tuesday of allowing Greg Jennings' comments on ESPN's "First Take" to stand on their own in this post. I watched Jennings discuss his transition from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers to Christian Ponder and couldn't tell if he was taking shots at Rodgers and the Packers or if he was simply taking his mercenary role to the extreme.

As well, I heard him suggest that his quasi-back-and-forth with Rodgers has all been in jest. His words suggested otherwise, especially a quickly uttered "you get respect when you give respect." Based on your response via Twitter and in Tuesday's SportsNation chat, it seems that you're also trying to figure out if there is really anything going on here.

A sample of our chat discussion:

Did you see today's showing of First Take? It had Greg Jennings on the show. They discussed the ABC's of QBs - that is Aaron, Brett and Christian. Any thoughts on what he had to say?

I posted the video on the blog. I hate to be the one to stir it up, but I thought Jennings said some things that could easily be turned into motivation/bulletin-board material for the Packers. He connected the skill of receivers to quarterback success, or lack thereof, and suggested that Aaron Rodgers hadn't treated him with respect. I think you can make an argument for the former, but if the latter is really the case, then some people are being sensitive

Kevin you're there in MN. What's Jennings' issue? He keeps saying he has no problems with Rodgers but then keeps dropping little comments that show he clearly does have a problem.

Kevin Seifert (2:16 PM)

I'm not sure. The easy answer would be that Jennings thinks he and the Packers' receivers didn't get enough credit for Rodgers' success, but that's kind of how it works in football. The quarterback gets credit when he has good receivers to throw to, and he gets the blame when they aren't good enough to make plays.

Kevin, what is your obsession with Jennings? Why so many questions on him?

Kevin Seifert (2:17 PM)

It's July 16 and he was interviewed today. Tryin' to keep it fresh.
