Vikings injury report: Ponder limited

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Quarterback Christian Ponder was limited in practice on Wednesday with a fractured rib, marking the fourth straight injury report where Ponder has not been listed as a full participant. If Ponder is going to sit out Sunday's game in favor of Matt Cassel, it would seem the Vikings can still point to his injury as justification for the move.

Cassel practiced with the Vikings' first-team offense on Wednesday, though the quarterback said he has not yet been told whether he will start on Sunday. The Vikings waited until Friday to announce their decision before their Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in London, and coach Leslie Frazier hinted the team will take its time again.

"I don’t know if it’s -- from our standpoint -- a necessity to say on Wednesday what direction we want to go," Frazier said. "There’s just no urgency in getting that done."
