Here’s an interesting take from my ESPN’s Gene Wojciechowski, whose work also appears over on ESPN Chicago. Wojciechowski wonders if there is a point where Bears coach Lovie Smith will hold quarterback Jay Cutler accountable for his NFL-high 17 interceptions:
Wojciechowski: “I know Cutler is the franchise quarterback. I know backup Caleb Hanie has a grand total of one NFL completion for 3 yards. But if Smith wants to send a message that everyone, including Cutler, is accountable for his play, he has to do more than blather on about it in his postgame monotone-athon.”
This would be a more intriguing issue if the Bears had a more viable, or at least more experienced, backup. With the playoffs still at least a mathematical possibility, it would be difficult to turn to Hanie at this point. What do you think?
