Detroit Lions bring in J.J. Nelson for pre-draft visit

This week appears to be wide receiver week when it comes to pre-draft visits for the Detroit Lions.

After hosting legacy wide receiver Breshad Perriman on Wednesday, the Lions stuck with speed guys on Thursday, bringing in J.J. Nelson of UAB to Allen Park, Michigan.

The 5-foot-10, 156-pound Nelson ran the fastest 40-yard dash at the combine at 4.28 seconds. He also had a 36-inch vertical jump, a 127-inch broad jump, a 7.02-second three-cone drill, a 4.15-second 20-yard shuttle and an 11.89-second 60-yard shuttle.

Nelson is rated by ESPN.com as the No. 46 receiver in the class, but is more of a return specialist initially at that size.

Nelson had 35 catches for 655 yards and four touchdowns last season, leading UAB in receiving yards. He was a dynamic returner, averaging 10.7 yards on 26 punt returns and 38.3 yards on 22 kick returns – including four kick return touchdowns.
