The NFC North got no love from Associated Press voters who determined the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year Award.
I’m not surprised that Houston linebacker Brian Cushing won the award, but I thought Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews would get more than three of the 50 votes, and I thought Detroit safety Louis Delmas should have gotten at least some recognition. Regardless, both players had historic rookie seasons. They’ll get their props here, if nowhere else.
Matthews had more sacks (10) than any rookie in Packers history. Delmas, meanwhile, became the first rookie in NFL history with a safety as well as a fumble and interception return for a touchdown. His 101-yard return of an interception against Arizona last month was the longest by an NFL rookie since 1926.
