Running with the stars

I know we refer to this time of year as "vacation," but trust me when I tell you that most players hardly take this time off. If anything, they accelerate their workouts as training camp approaches.

Last month, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers noted he will spend this month working out in San Diego with New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, San Diego tailback LaDainian Tomlinson and Chicago cornerback Charles Tillman, among others.

So you might be interested to know that Packers receiver Greg Jennings is working out in the Twin Cities with a group of players that includes Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald, Tampa Bay's Michael Clayton and Denver's Brandon Marshall. (The connection between Jennings and Fitzgerald, a Twin Cities native, is agent Eugene Parker.)

Don't believe me? Fitzgerald posted this picture of the group Wednesday on his Twitter feed. They're standing on the practice field at the University of Minnesota. If any of you thought Jennings might take it easy after signing a $27 million contract extension, I think you can rest assured he's working hard -- and with some of the best in the business.

Meanwhile, Rice expressed some serious skepticism about Minnesota's pursuit of retired quarterback Brett Favre. Speaking to Chip Scoggins of the Star Tribune, Rice said the Vikings are hoping for a "one-year miracle" and adding Favre could "really backfire."
