I went to the gym following Friday’s NFC South chat (and here’s the complete transcript). When I came out my cell phone looked like I hadn’t seen it for two weeks.
In just about two hours, there were literally dozens of voicemails and e-mails. The Carolina Panthers had cut running back DeAngelo Williams, the early messages said. That made me check the calendar to make sure it wasn’t April 1.
Teams just don’t cut one of their best players for no apparent reason. Williams is one of the league’s top running backs and a guy who never has any off-field issues.
This one made no sense and that was because it wasn’t at all true. NFL.com somehow listed Williams’ release on a transaction list. It was supposed to be Cincinnati cornerback DeAngelo Willingham. That change now has been made.
And Williams remains very much a member of the Panthers.
