Although the New Orleans Saints are focused on Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings, I’m sure there at least had to be some disappointment in their building today when the NFL announced Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will serve only a four-game suspension.
There had been a chance Roethlisberger would be suspended for as many as six games. That little difference could be very big to the Saints. Unlike the Falcons and Buccaneers, who will face the Steelers in the first three weeks, the Saints play Pittsburgh in its seventh game.
Even if Roethlisberger’s suspension was held at six games, the Saints still were going to face him. But they would have been facing him in his first game back. Now, Roethlisberger already will have played games against Cleveland and Miami before the Steelers come to the Superdome for an Oct. 31 game.
By that time, any rust Roethlisberger might have should be gone.
