Atlanta cornerback Brent Grimes has been named the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Week, the NFL announced Wednesday afternoon. It's the first such award for Grimes in his three-year career.
Grimes caused two turnovers in Sunday’s 34-18 victory at Seattle as the Falcons ran their winning streak to eight games. Grimes intercepted Matt Hasselbeck once to set up a third-quarter field goal. Later in the same quarter, he tipped a pass that wound up getting intercepted by safety William Moore to set up a touchdown.
Grimes finished the game with a team-high five passes defensed. According to the Falcons, Grimes has set a franchise record and leads the NFL with 22 knockdowns this season. Grimes also is tied for the team lead with five interceptions.
