Falcons add veteran lineman Newberry

The Atlanta Falcons addressed one of their few remaining areas of need Monday, signing veteran offensive lineman Jeremy Newberry.

That should give them some depth, flexibility and experience after the retirement of Todd Weiner shortly after last season ended. Newberry has been in the league 11 years, spending last season with San Diego and 2007 with Oakland. Prior to that, Newberry played for the San Francisco 49ers, who drafted him in 1998.

Newberry has played most of his career at center and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2001 and '02.
