NFC West colleague Mike Sando has a scorecard on how all the divisions have fared in the Power Rankings we’ve been doing in recent months.
The NFC South ranks fifth among the eight divisions in the point system Sando has come up with. So far, wide receiver has been the division’s biggest scorer and that’s due to Atlanta’s Roddy White. The tight ends (Tony Gonzalez and Kellen Winslow) and coaches (Sean Payton and Mike Smith) also have fared well.
But I’m thinking there’s a chance the NFC South could jump in the standing after our next two installments. We’ll have cornerbacks Tuesday and quarterbacks the following week.
I’ve already filled out my ballot on cornerbacks and there are two NFC South players on there, but I can’t speak for the other voters. Looking ahead to quarterbacks, I haven’t sat down and crunched numbers yet, but I’m thinking there’s a very strong chance three NFC South quarterbacks will be on my ballot.
