Peyton Manning and the NFC South

The entire NFC South is going to be keeping a close eye on Peyton Manning's recovery after the Indianapolis Colts quarterback had additional neck surgery Thursday.

The Colts aren’t putting any timetable on a Manning return, but said they don’t plan to put him on the injured-reserve list. Whatever happens with Manning, it could have big implications on the NFC South because all four teams are scheduled to play the Colts this season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the first in line. They’re scheduled to host the Colts Oct. 3 in a Monday Night Football game. That could help the Bucs on the field, but the potential absence of Manning could make it tough to sellout Raymond James Stadium.

The Saints are scheduled to host the Colts on Oct. 23. If Manning’s out, that ruins a great storyline. Manning’s a New Orleans native and his father, Archie, was a quarterback for the Saints.

The Falcons will travel to Indianapolis Nov. 6. The Panthers are at Indianapolis on Nov. 27.
