Before the NFL draft, Cam Newton took some heat for saying he wanted to be an icon.
Looks like the Carolina rookie quarterback already has become one. Precisely one game into his NFL career, Newton has jumped to the top of the Cross-Sport Power Rankings. He’s ahead of people such as New England quarterback Tom Brady and tennis player Novak Djokovic, who just won the U.S. Open.
And Newton’s ascension comes after the Panthers lost to the Arizona Cardinals. Of course, Newton was spectacular in that game. He threw for 422 yards, the most ever by a player making his NFL debut.
