Former Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden won’t be returning to the sideline anytime soon.
ESPN announced Monday that Gruden has agreed to a five-year contract to continue in his role as an analyst on “Monday Night Football.’’ The new deal begins in 2012.
"Our "Monday Night Football'' crew is special, and to have the opportunity to continue to be a part of this team, working these big-time NFL prime time games every week on ESPN, I’m fired up," said Gruden.
Gruden led the Buccaneers to their only Super Bowl championship in the 2002 season. But his teams struggled to win consistently in later years and Gruden was fired after the 2008 season. He had three years remaining on his contract when he was fired and is still being paid by the Buccaneers for this season.
