We just showed you one way knocking off a juggernaut like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has put the Carolina Panthers on the national radar. For those who don’t get it, there’s a little bit of sarcasm in that statement.
Now, here’s some more evidence. Carolina rookie quarterback Cam Newton has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week by the NFL. Against Tampa Bay, Newton passed for 204 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 54 yards and three touchdowns. Newton also set a new record for rushing touchdowns in a season by a quarterback with his 13th scoring run.
What might be even more significant is the fact Newton is the first NFC South player not named Drew Brees to win this award this season. Brees has won it twice, including last week. That gives the NFC South back-to-back winners of this award for the first time this year.
