Atlanta linebacker Curtis Lofton has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season.
Lofton had 14 tackles in a 45-24 victory against Tampa Bay on Sunday. Nine of those tackles were within five yards of the line of scrimmage, including two tackles for a loss. Lofton also had a 26-yard interception return for his first career touchdown.
This is the first Player of the Week award in Lofton’s career. He was one of only four NFC South players to win the NFC Defensive Player of the Week this season. New Orleans safety Roman Harper won it twice. Tampa Bay cornerback Ronde Barber and Atlanta defensive end John Abraham each won it once.
