Former Rutgers assistant joining Bucs

Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano is adding at least one former Rutgers assistant to his new staff.

P.J. Fleck resigned as offensive coordinator at Northern Illinois only one day after his hiring for that position was announced. A source said Fleck backed out of the job so he could become the wide receivers coach for the Buccaneers.

The team has not announced any hirings of assistants since Schiano took the job. But Schiano indicated he would like to bring along some of his former Rutgers assistants. A team spokesperson could not be reached immediately for confirmation.

Fleck was the wide receivers coach at Rutgers the past two seasons. Before that he was the receivers coach at Northern Illinois, where he also played.
